Cut and Paste Using Spike

October 23, 2019

The Spike is a Microsoft Word function which allows you to remove two or more items (such as text or graphics) from non-adjacent locations in a Word document, and then paste them in a new location.

Step 1: Select the content and press Ctrl + F3. This cuts the content and puts it on the Spike.

1

We copied two blocks of text, one after the other which we will now paste into a new document.

Step 2: Click the File tab > New > Blank Document

2

Step 3: Click Ctrl + Shift + F3 to paste the text gathered in the Spike and all the data in the Spike, including all the text previously added is inserted into the document.

3

Note You can also view the Spike's contents without it being pasted or the Spike emptied. Click on the tab I Insert in the Text section, click the Quick Parts button and select AutoText.
